DAVID ARVIZU For City Council
DAVID ARVIZU For City Council
I believe the true value of a person can be measured by the works that they have done, not merely by the words that come out of their mouth. I have lived in Arcadia for 25 years & during that time I have worked hard to build relationships within our community & to do my part in making Arcadia the great city that it is.
I am currently serving as Planning Commissioner for the City of Arcadia. My responsibilities include working with City Staff on development projects for business, residential and mixed-use new construction.
As a Board Member of the Highland Oaks Home Owners Association for 8 years,
I have worked with other HOA members in maintaining and preserving the beauty of our neighborhood.
I also worked with other Board Members on planning the HOA Annual Picnic
For 6 years I served as the Co-Chairman of the Architectural Review Board. My primary responsibility was overseeing the approval process for home remodels in The Highlands.
If you did a remodel in the last 6 years,
I probably worked with you on it.
As a member of the Downtown Arcadia Improvement Association, I worked on this year's Lunar New Year Festival and the Patriotic Festival. I developed, built and ran the games in the Carnival Game Zone.
To date, as Area Coordinator of the Neighborhood Watch Program, I have added 6 more streets and over 50 households to the program. Additionally, I have created a Bulletin Board on the HOA website with updates of criminal activity in The Highlands.
This year we celebrated our community with a Block Party on Sunday Sept 8th, sponsored by the HOA.
As the Chairman of the Block Party Committee, I worked with a fabulous team of volunteers to produce an amazing event that was a great hit with everyone.
I was a founding member of the "Saving Arcadia" grass-roots movement. Through our efforts, we were able to bring much needed changes to the city's Building Codes in order to preserve the aesthetic charm of our neighborhoods.
This has become my "Pet Project" over the last year. After going door-to-door to gather support, I was able to get the City Council to agree to petition Caltrans and Metro to build a Sound Wall at the overpass of 2nd and Colorado. Although the project has not been started, I vow to keep the pressure on until it is.
It's true. For the last 20+ years, I have designed, built and hosted a truly terrifying Haunted House at my home on Highland Oaks Drive.
Somehow I got the unofficial title of
"The Haunted House Guy", which I humbly embrace.
If you enjoy a good scare, make sure you stop by this Halloween.
We need to protect ourselves and our families. The crime that has been creeping into our city needs to be stopped. I am not afraid to say it,
"Homeless encampments bring crime into our city".
By enforcing the "No Camping" law and proactive police work, we can send the message, "If you come to Arcadia and commit a crime, you're going to jail"
There was a time when it was REQUIRED by law that as a city you had to offer housing if you wanted to enforce a "No Camping" law. That changed earlier this year with a ruling from the US Supreme Court. Now, with the backing of Gov. Newson's mandate that California cities must clean out Homeless Encampments, Arcadia doesn't need Tiny Homes in order to enforce our "No Camping" law.
The Police and Fire Departments of our city need our support. My brother served with the LAPD for 30 years, and he made it clear to me that First Responders need to know that we have their back. As a union member for over 35 years, I know that a well-negotiated contract is the key to attracting and keeping quality employees.
Eisenhower Park is supposed to be for the enjoyment of the residents of Arcadia. But with the increasing number of homeless living along the wash, it is becoming less and less inviting to families. As a City Council member, I vow that there will be regular sweeps of the area to remove homeless encampments in and around the park.
Preserving the quality of craftsmanship, materials and construction insures that the homes in Arcadia continues to be highly valued by home buyers.
Add to that a robust community involvement in the Neighborhood Watch Program and you have a winning formula for strong property values.
In December of 2021, heavy rains caused a mud flow into the park. More than eight feet of mud buried Wilderness Park paths, picnic tables, trees, and facilities. The storm also washed away a portion of the Los Angeles County’s bridge into Wilderness Park. Now, almost 3 years later, the park still remains closed. It is time to push this restoration project forward and restore the park to its rustic, natural beauty.
I pay taxes, you pay taxes, we all pay taxes.
It is the responsibility of the City Council to make sure that your tax money is put to good use and not needlessly wasted.
Our children are the most important treasures that we hold. As a parent and City Council member, I will always work to add new enrichment programs throughout the city.
Building good relationships with neighbors is the key to a strong community. I have and will continue to work at getting neighbors to know each other through group activities and gatherings.
As much as I appreciate the financial support offered by many of you, I am not accepting any donations for my campaign. I am not rich, not by any means, (just ask my 2000 4-Runner) but I think that it is important that a candidate not be beholden to anyone or anything except the interests of the people who elected him.
You can show your support by helping to promote my campaign by posting a yard sign on your lawn. Send a text to 626 627-6503 and I will personally drop one off at your home.
